Final Day of Kiddos Visit

Saturday we went down to the beach. The kids rode the ATV and I walked. We walked down the beach and back to the ATV. Then the kids went exploring as I walked home. Half-way home I noticed a rainbow and then it began to rain.

I noticed a rainbow ending by the church.

And followed it to the other end by the airport.

The kids weren't fair behind be because it was raining harder. Renee and I went into the house to dry off and Cody went exploring up the north road, past the airport and out to the fish plant. He came home drenched. We spent the rest of the afternoon watching movies and TV shows (now that I have internet). Oh yes, we did cut Cody's hair with the Flowbee. I'm getting fairly good at it, though the Flowbee is designed to be very simple and to create a good haircut.

Sunday I had to go back and do some touch-up on the top of his head and he then decided to cut it even shorter all over. It looked good on him.

Monday they were supposed to be on the 8:45 flight, so they could catch the 1:29 AK Air blight out of BET. Wouldn't you know it--it never came. The next flight would arrive around 2 pm, so I called BET, because Devin said to never call their 800 number. They are based in SEA and have no concept of air travel in rural AK. The BET agent refused to help me and transferred me to SEA. They insisted on canceling their 1:29 flight, even though it was 10 am. She then booked them on a Wednesday morning flight. When a plane arrived around 3:30, Cody insisted that he and Renee take it into BET in hopes of getting on standby. I gave Cody and Renee all the cash I had--$67 and put them on the plane. Cody found someone who would let them use their cell phone and called me. The SEA agent had TOTALLY SCREWED them. If their flight had not been canceled and rebooked, they could have gotten on the standby list for the 9:12 flight, but because they had a reservation for another day, they could not. A seat came open and I attempted to purchase it, but lost it to someone with a faster computer. Renee, who thought she would be on that flight, gave all her money to Cody. I booked them a room at the Whitehouse B&B. The wonderful BET agent was not able to get them on the last flight, but put them on the top of the wait list for Tuesday's morning flight. She even gave them a ride to the B&B. I called Chopstiks and had burgers delivered to them, so they had dinner. I knew they had use a good part of their cash to eat during their wait.

I called Tuesday morning at the B&B to make sure they were up and getting a cap to the airport early. I checked and both were on the wait list. Cody was through security, but Renee had no ID and they needed to call DC to verify she was a citizen. They were not going to let her on the 8:25 am flight. Though they asked if he wanted to wait with Renee, Cody was afraid he would not get into ANC in time for his job, so he left her there. Renee was extremely pissed at this. I called the agent a couple of times, but never hear from Renee. She is so shy she would not ask to use the agents or anyones phone to call me. I learned later that she had no money for food or anything. If I had known I would have had food delivered to her. I watched the wait list and knew she had a seat when her name disappeared. I immediately called the agent and was informed that she was on the plane. I called Randy to make sure Cody would meet her at the end of the hall and take her to Randy's truck.

Their bush experience was over. We'll see if they ever want to come see me again in the future.
