What a week!! :)

So I was in Bethel for Thursday through Saturday, of last week. We started out being trained on how to use the new evaluation app (Observe4Success) the district is using for "walk-throughs" and later for the actual observations. Once again I'm very impressed with the 'forward thinking' of this district. Once the forms are actually designed--a fairly easy process--this will be so much easier than carrying around the 23 page document. Then we moved onto "reliability training" or level setting. To finish Thursday we were introduced to the School Improvement Process and student performance data.

Friday we spend the entire day looking at "student performance data" and filling in a PowerPoint presentation, for our Advisory School Board (ASB) and parents. In truth, we were being prepped to finish our portion of the Schools Accreditation. It was due September 7th and they got an extension to September 21st, so it had to be completed before we left Saturday. Needless to say,  we spent Saturday completing it.

I had a very relaxing Sunday. My friend Sarah had sent me three boxes. I was told they were received by the PO, but the PO would not open until 3 pm Monday. Wouldn't you know it--there was so much going on, with visitors (mentors for my teachers), who needed to discuss somethings with me, to students misbehaving (I had to suspend one for calling the teacher "niggis" and me a "f**king witch"; plus he told us he was going to get his brothers, who will beat up the teacher for him.). I had to go talk to the mother. Anyway, I completely missed the opening of the PO (3-3:30 pm) and had to wait until Tuesday to get my packages. It was an unusual collection of items, all well intentioned and from the heart. Some things were welcome contributions to my pantry, some I will use at the school, and others will be wonderful treats. The BEST thing in her packages was an external hard drive (1.5 TB) full of movies. They were all categorized in folders by genera. This was a godsend. I have no internet, TV service, or cable. I have been watching Netflix DVDs, which I save for a Saturday night treat. Now I can watch a movie anytime I want. :D Oh happy day!!!

I was so tired after the ordeals of the day that I forgot to call Sarah and thank her. I had just gotten into bed and was dozing off, when she called me. One of the first things that popped out of my mouth was, "You must have cleaned out a cupboard." I'm afraid that I might have hurt her feelings, when I was trying to be funny. As I tried to dig myself out of the 'hole', I dug myself deeper, with, "I don't know what I'll do with 21 boxes of Jello and 4 boxes of Sure Gel." I know in my heart that she wanted to send me treats and treats that I may not be able to get in "bush" Alaska and it came from her loving heart.

Today, I had a visit from Alfred (Twilly) Gosuk, an ivory carver. He was visiting his friend, one of my students parents. He came to offer to teach all my students to carve ivory. He is also willing to sell items without the middle man's profit. If you are interested in anything, you can see some of his items at www.twilly.4t.com. I'm very excited about get him into the school teaching.

One of the three women who are running for ASB brought me a young woman who applied for my cook (4 hrs) and secretary (3 hrs) positions. The district is now attempting to get us included in the states free breakfast/lunch program. Plus I will have someone to do some of the paperwork. :D

Life keeps getting better and better!!
