What a gorgeous day it is!! Before the sun peeked over the hills behind Goodnews, I could see the city lights across the bay. Goodnews has the hills behind it, to the east, so they do not get to see the wonderful sun rises that I get to see.
We are ready for the first day of school tomorrow. The work areas have been cleaned and the teachers have their lesson plans made. I have support staff here today, so we can figure out how best to serve our students. For me, I'm not sure. I've been told I'm on a need to know basis. The thing is--I feel like I'm not being informed. I finally e-mailed the registrar to ask if I have to have the returning students registered. It would be nice to know if I have to have any paperwork filled out by our parents. I've advertised for a secretary, custodian, and teacher's aid. No one has shown any interest yet. If they aren't filled, I take on the duties.
Whoot!! Just had a young lady come in and apply for the TA and custodian positions. Now all I need is a secretary. I have to advertise for a cook also, but my teachers enjoy having a 45 minute break, when the students go home for lunch. The position has been advertised for the last two years and never filled, so the odds are it will not happen.
Things are beginning to happen here. I've been firing off e-mails all day asking what I do with this and that. I'm beginning to feel like I'm getting a slight hand hold on this job.
My teachers are off exploring the country side--relaxing before tomorrow. I feel so blessed. These two young men are awesome teachers. It is going to be fun working with them this next school year.
Did I mention that there are two internet providers out here--GCI and UUI. They both charge $150 for antenna and $50 to install it. Then they charge anywhere from almost no downloaded data at $65/mo to $100/mo with a phone or $115/mo w/o phone for 25000mb. I was wondering if GCI offers a tethered hotspot device and what it will cost. AT&T offers one, not sure of the cost, but we don't get AT&T out here. I really don't want a TV, but I have shows I like to watch on Netflix, Hulu, PBS, etc.
Well like I said, it is a gorgeous day out there. I want to get some dinner and a walk.
