After returning to Anchorage from my trip to Denver (NEA RA) and Arkansas (to visit long time friend [50 years] Kriste-lee, I did got to spend some time with my sister during Fairbank's Golden Days weekend. ThenI started packing up my personal items, bring things in ANC in shape to leave, visiting with friends (I had a wonderful dinner with Aurora, Denise, and Connie. Rosanne and I got together for some knitting and coffee.). I finally got everything packed and mailed on Tuesday (7/29). During this week of packing and visiting, I fitted in several doctor visits. I will be gone 5 months.
Wednesday (7/30) I attempted to do my final laundry and shop for veggies and frozen meat. I ended up wrapping a few wet items in a plastic bag and stuffing them into my overnight bag. My kids managed to wake up and say goodbye to me. I don't think it has registered that they won't see me for months. It was a quick flight to Bethel. When I p/ued my bags, my box of veggies was split open. That PO packing box was no match for the AA baggage handlers. I got the site keys, my district e-mail connected to my iPad, and the district phone. My AT&T iPhone will not work in PTU.
What a gorgeous day! It is clear, sunny, and in the low 70s here. Linea left me a made bed with sheets and comforter, dishes & cups, silverware, 3 frying pans, and some bottled water. Thank goodness I brought some smoked salmon spread, crackers, and strawberry, rhubarb pie (in a baggie)--it became dinner. For my evenings entertainment, I unpacked a jigsaw puzzle and sorted out the border pieces.
Another beautiful day. Not as hot as yesterday, but very nice. Thursday breakfast became more spread and crackers, with a cup of tea. I carry a couple of tea bags in my overnight bag. I found a tea kettle in the school, so I can boil water. My doctor mentioned needing lost of Philips of Magnesia, so I'm not sure of the water quality here. I do have a Brita coming. I got hold of the maintenance man, John, who brought me the 4 wheeler and came to help me get my boxes from the PO. They weren't all at the PO, with some searching I found a couple in an arctic entryway and at the bottom of a stack of school supplies, in a hall. It has started to sprinkle. I spent the rest of the day unpacking my staples and putting them away. I had a late lunch of some left-over chicken & pasta and a fruit smoothy. Love my Vita Mix! I spent the rest of the evening starting the district required paperwork and putting the boarder together on the puzzle.
A rainy cool day. Friday (8/1) I made biscuits, scrambled eggs, fried spam, and Keurig coffee. :) I spend the morning finishing the paperwork and started to download an iTunes movie for tonight's entertainment. At 3pm, I walked over to see if there was any mail. Hoping for my personal items, being as I have only two outfits and one pair of socks. It was too foggy for planes to land, so no mail. Hopefully tomorrow. I check on getting wifi in the house, but I would have to buy the antenna ($150), have it installed ($50), and monthly fees for minimal download ($65) to mid range of 25000mb ($100 w/phone or $115 w/o phone). I was going to not have TV and just watch Netflix and Hulu. Looks like it will be DISH. Before bed, I got some of the middle of the puzzle started. I was woken up at midnight by kids pounding on my door. How do I know it was kids? I heard they running off giggling. I ignored them. They did it twice more. It must have been younger kids this time, because the pounding was softer. The last time I heard them giggling, so I stood by the door and opened it. They dashed behind the house giggling and did not do it again.
Today, Saturday (8/2), same breakfast as Friday. Came to school to check mail and work on this blog. It is cloudy, but not foggy out. Hopefully I get my cloths today or I will have my two outfits for the Bethel inservice. I fly in tomorrow at 3pm. I'll be back Wednesday with the new teacher. We will have a week of in-services and workdays. Students arrive 8/14. I will take a walk around town. It is not raining and is a beautiful cool day.
Please post picures. Thank you for the package you sent to me!
