Back in Platinum

I spent four days getting settled into Platinum. Then on August 3rd I returned to Bethel for the Site Administrator (SA) in-service. SW who is in charge of the district travel booked me into a B&B, the Sleepy Salmon. I told her that I would prefer staying there, anytime I came into town, over staying at the Longhouse, the preferred hotel of the district. I had the principal from Kwethluk as a roommate.

The in-service was not much different that the hundreds that I have attended, in the pass, as a teacher. Three days of sitting in a very muggy (The days started out foggy and ended up hot 70* F.) room, while people talk to you for hours. I did come away with some very good information. Now that I'm at the site, I wish I had been told more about the paperwork my position is required to turn-in and when.

Returned to Platinum (PTU) and learned that the city generator is down, so there is no water. Thank goodness our maintenance man had filled the two huge water holding tanks in my utility room. The school and my house has water; we just have to use it sparingly. It has been three days and will possible be four, before it is fixed. Today the owner of the village store came to me looking for a generator to borrow. I'm not sure we have one, so I offered the huge chest freezer on my back porch. It was not plugged in, but I started it, and they moved all their frozen food over to my house. Then an elder as if she could put her food in it too. Of course, I let her.

The day after I got back to PTU I went to the PO and picked up three of my tubs and the box I mailed before leaving ANC. Wouldn't you know it, none of them was my cloths. I'm in my second week and approaching my third week of wearing the TWO changes of cloths I brought with me. Luckily I threw into one of the tubs a couple of hoodies, three shirts, and a pair of sweats. I have a little more variety, but not much. My rain gear was in one of the tubs, which helps; plus all my shoes and boots. I called Yute Air and asked that they put my tub on a flight ASAP. I hope they don't hang onto it for much longer.

I'm going to have to dig out my camera and see if I can post some pictures.
