Sunday, the boys were taken out hunting by their host families. Norman took Brandon past the mine and down the coast. Brandon found a partial walrus jaw and retrieved the teeth. Shelby took Dalton out and he got to shoot his first shotgun. He has a phone video of him shooting it and the recoil. He's very proud.
The girls slept in. I made sourdough crepes for them. Janet put ham and scrambled eggs in them for me. I spent the morning attempting to put a few more rows on the stocking I've been working on for the past year. Janet curled up and read a book.
At 4 pm, Devin and Autumn hauled the hamburgers, buns, chips, and Kool-aid down to the beach. Daniel had already started the fire and had his BBQ down there. Daniel started the coals while I bake a cake for Nathan's birthday. It was an overcast, yet windless day. The fire was wonderful to gather around. Janet and I laid and relax on the sand for awhile until the fire got too hot. Good timing on our part, the first of the hamburgers were done and ready to eat. We helped dishing out buns and chips.
Sometime after everyone ate, it seems there were some dares passed out. The end result was Nathan, Shelby, and Devin dove into the Bering Sea. The boys stripped down to their boxers and Devin left his pants on. They all huddled around the fire to dry off and warm up. Thank goodness for Daniel building a huge fire and it was blazing by then. They were in and out so fast that neither Janet or I got a picture.
The sun was going down and I was getting tired and cold. We piled everything into the trailer and Daniel took us back to school. Janet and I cleaned up and went home to relax. The kids stayed down at the beach for a few more hours. Sometime in there Scout impressed Norman and the boys by taking a bite (a small one I hope) out of a starfish she had thrown on the fire. Not only did she impress them, she won $10 from Norman, who bet she wouldn't do it.
The girls were home by 8pm. Dalton joined us and we watched one of Sara Short's movies. At 9 pm, Mary called looking for Dalton. She said her small one go to bed at 9:30 and Shelby at 10 pm and it was time for Dalton to come home.
It was a good day!! :)
