I made home-made hotdog buns, because I would have had to order them in Bethel, over the phone, and hope that they would get delivered, in time; plus freight charges. We grilled the hotdogs instead of boiling them, so the flavor was better. Most of the guests chose to have them as chili-dogs. We served chips, Kool-Aid and cupcakes, for dessert.
I did not bring a costume, but did bring my face water color paints, so decided to be "Spot". I pained Daniel's face and then every kid wanted me to paint their face.
I spent all, except a few minutes at the start of the Family Crafts, in the kitchen. I started to take pictures of the kids doing their crafts, when a parent asked me to feed two elders early. I walked into the kitchen and never left it for the rest of the night. When the meal delivery started to slow down, I started painting kid's faces. Chris, this was his last night in Platinum, helped me clean up the kitchen. Autumn, our sub replacing Chris, arrived Thursday night, so was able to help with the crafts. She was staying with me until Chris left and she could move into teacher housing. We were home watching a movie (Stardust) by 7:00 pm. The first group of kids (5) knocked on the door and we handed out handfuls of candy. At 8:30 pm, the second and last group (8) showed up and we almost emptied the bowl (just a handful left).
Saturday was a relaxed day of reading and knitting. Chris stopped by to say goodbye. Devin and Autumn rode out to see him off at the plane. I hate goodbyes, so stayed home. I made Caribou and Broccoli over rice, for dinner. After we watched another movie, Smart People, she took the ATV and moved into the teacher house.
Sunday, I slept in, got up moved the clocks back, and ate breakfast. When I got to school, no one was there. Found out Devin and Autumn decided to ride up to the mine. I knew that being a principal would be lonely, but not getting asked, ever, to join Devin and his exploits makes me feel lonely in a different way that I ever imagined it. I do have to use the school's ATV and last year Linae would never allow it to be used for anything personal, but I'm not Linae. I don't use it every day, for everything. Using it to go sight seeing would be fun and I could replace the gas used. I'm just never asked, so I guess I will have to just go myself. I've decided to take my kids up to the mine and ghost town. I've asked Daniel to be our guide. I'm looking forward to them being here.
